On March 31, at Wuhan Jianghan Road, Dai Jingwen and Wang Zu’an, two undergraduates from the College of Humanities & Social Sciences, HZAU bravely saved a dying teenage girl. On that day, when passing by Jianghan Road, they noticed a group of people surrounded a teenage girl and constantly shouted her name loudly.
“At first we thought they were shooting a short video and didn’t care, but when we saw the girl’s veins bulging on her hand, and her face turning purple, we realized that something was wrong,” said Wang, who had learned CPR in class and immediately operated CPR for the girl.
Wang estimated that the girl’s trachea might be blocked after hearing her friends’ description of the accident. So Wang performed the Heimlich maneuver on the girl as quickly as possible to clear the tracheal foreign body. Meanwhile, Dai called the ambulance and videoed the rescue process. Then, Wang also accompanied the girl to the hospital and paid for the medical expenses.
On April 3, Wang and Dai receive thanks banners from the saved girl.
“For me, there was no time to hesitate because the girl’s life was at stake. I couldn’t watch a living life disappear, so I decided to save her immediately.” When recalling the scene, Wang still couldn’t calm down. Dai said that she recorded the entire rescue process to help the doctors to know the real situation.
“After CPR, hearing the girl’s cry, I came to realize that life is invaluable and paramount,” Wang said.
“At the scene, there were few adults and as one of them, we should take the responsibility to save the poor girl,” said Dai.
It’s no accident that they did this brave deeds. Wang has participated in volunteer activities organized by Rhododendra Love Association of HZAU many times. Besides, she was a volunteer of the Law Association and actively participated in programs to popularize law knowledge. She also engaged in volunteer work in organizations on students’ psychological health education of both university and college.

Dai was a volunteer in the Party Construction Office of her college and an activist of party application. Her many comics on party construction had been published on college’s new media platform. “Both of my parents are party members. My father is also a soldier who participated in the anti-flood campaign in Wuhan in 1998 and received the third-class merit. They often tell me to help others in need,” Dai said.

Deng Huangjie, counselor of College of Humanities & Social Sciences, said that the two students were compassionate in daily life and could stay calm when encountering emergencies. From them, we could find the courage and sense of responsibility in danger. In today’s society, many people might worry about the trouble brought by saving others in a pickle, but there were still some brave people who stood out to help others and upheld the justice. Therefore, more and more students were encouraged to learn from Wang and Dai, be brave and do what is right, contributing their strength to the society.
